I hope everyone had an awesome Easter! The Easter Bunny brought me an early Easter present! Nya-nya-nya-nya-nya-nya... LOL! My granddaughter Dixie was born on Friday, March 14, 2008 and she is GORGEOUS! (I'm her grandma... I'm entitled to brag about her.)

Everything went great, she and my daughter are healthy, thank God! Below is a picture of my mother-in-law, named Dixie, holding lil Dixie--we'll have more pictures as soon as I remember to get more from my daughter.

Well Now What?

God’s word never changes and it never will. God offers us mercy and forgiveness for the sins that we’ve committed, however, as a condition of our Salvation, we have to repent of our sins. In John 8:11, Jesus said: “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” As Christians, we have to do our level best to walk away from the sinful lifestyle that we were living and never look back or we risk returning to our sinful lifestyles.

The apostle Paul discussed the need to be repentant and to turn away from our ungodly lusts, our sinful lifestyle that we were once in bondage to, and to live in freedom through Christ Jesus. See, before we fell to our knees before the cross and asked Jesus for forgiveness, we were slaves to sin because we didn't know any better. However, after we became believers and renounced all of our sin, the blood of Jesus cleansed us; we were made sinless, righteous, just like Jesus.

Hebrews 10 tells us that if we intentionally transgress, we’re trampling Jesus' sacrifice underfoot, we’re causing Jesus to die for us in vain. Put another way: Since we've been cleansed by the blood of Jesus, we can’t just keep on sinning and hope that God will look the other way or excuse our sins due to what society says we can do; He doesn’t and He won’t. That means no more smoking pot, drinking heavily or anything like that.

On the other hand, if you do slip up—as all of us do occasionally—take the sin to God, confess it to Him, renounce the sin, ask for His forgiveness, and get on with your life… don’t give the devil a foothold by beating yourself up over it. Remember that God is quick to forgive.

Now that Christ has set us free, now that he has opened the cell doors for us like he did for the apostles in Acts 5 and offered us a better way, we have to step out of our dark, dank, smelly prison cells into the light of day and let the awesome power of Christ transform us into children of light.

Watching God At Work

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 (KJV)

As I peered at the monitor and watched the baby within my daughter’s womb move around during her latest ultrasound appointment the other day, I was spellbound. While the baby stretched out her little legs and showed off her hands and feet, I imagined that God was whispering to her, “Okay now baby, it’s time to test the joints in your legs and your feet. Move them around so we can make sure that they’re just right.” When I saw her yawn, it was the most precious thing in the world to me. Being allowed to watch God work is such a priceless gift.

I was overflowing with joy as I looked at the expression on my daughter’s face while she watched the baby move around and commented saying, “Oh,” and “How cute!” Soon, I will have the privilege of seeing my daughter love another as much as I love her, and that doesn’t begin to come close to the love that God has for each one of us.

As it says in Job 31:15, God Himself formed each of us in our mother’s wombs. God made every one of us just right. Regardless of whether we have deformities or other things wrong with us, we’re made the way that pleases the Lord the most. Psalm 127:3 says: “Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.” (NIV) How much more of a reward are grandchildren?

Something To Think About:

What do you think that would life be like if the greatest influences on Christians today had never been born?

* Copyright 2008 Sandra Purdue. This devotional was written months before my granddaughter was born. When I went to one of my daughter's OB appointments, I had the privilege of peeking over the ultrasound technician's shoulder and was so awed that when I got home, I wrote the above devotional.

What Are They Really Asking?

Get to the heart of the question before you get to the answer. by Judson Poling

One of my colleagues told me the story of a professor, a brilliant man, whose father couldn't support the family. As a boy, this professor listened as the extended family argued over who was going to get stuck with raising him. In the middle of their arguing, feeling abandoned and unwanted, he slipped away to his room. There he found solace and escape in books.

His initial reaction to Christianity was to ask skeptical questions. He's not the only one for whom intellectualism becomes a way to mask pain. More than he needed his thinking corrected, he needed his heart mended. That brilliant boy did find healing in Christ, and today teaches seminary courses.

My ministry has brought me into contact with thousands of curious, questioning people. I've discovered that people ask spiritual questions because something in their lives isn't working. Uncertainty, fear, and pain provoke their questions. What they really want isn't information, but relief.

Most seekers' questions, whether intellectual or emotional, indicate underlying issues. Choosing to believe in Christ carries major internal ramifications. Snappy, pat answers don't satisfy these inner struggles. Nobody wants a two-cent answer to a million-dollar question.

Behind every question is a person asking that question, and we need to minister to that person—if we can find him.

What do you think?

A great irony in Scripture prompted me to rethink how I answer seekers' questions.

What To Do About You Know What?

One thing on many churchgoers' minds nowadays is what to do about the gays or lesbians that attend their church. Since it is our job to help one another to stay on the straight and narrow path to righteousness (James 5:19-20) what should we do?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Love them like you want to be loved because love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8). Besides, who amongst us is perfect?

I came across an interesting article called: "What About Gays Needs to Change? It may not be what you think!" that answers the above question. Though the article is a few years old, it still pertains to the here and now. Click on the following link to read it. http://www.christiananswers.net/q-cross/cross-gaychange.html

Q. Do the gifts of the Holy Spirit pertain to today's Christian?

A. Yes! Spiritual gifts are as alive and well today as they were way back when in Jesus' time. The gifts bestowed upon each Christian are entirely according to God's will and given through God's Holy Spirit.

Christian article, article about hypocrisy,

What’s In Your Backyard?

I’ll admit, when I was a new Christian, I was a tad bit judgmental. Okay, okay… I was highly critical. Once I accepted salvation, because I was a new creature, I felt that I had the God-given right to evaluate others.

However, reading Matthew 7:1-5 and Luke 6:37-38 quickly knocked me off my high horse. I realized that since I had a lot of clutter in my own backyard—if you know what I mean—I had no right to go into someone else’s yard with a huge lawn bag and start cleaning up theirs. The bottom line: Being a Christian doesn’t mean we’re faultless. I’ll never be perfect and neither will you.

Frightening thought, isn’t it?

And when it comes right down to it, there’s nothing that we can ever do or not do to earn our salvation: we’re totally at the mercy of God. Thankfully, He isn’t like us; otherwise, He’d have already cast all of us into hell and washed His hands of the whole affair… scratch that, He never would have created the world and populated it with us in the first place.

However, Philippians 1:6 promises that one day, the work that God has begun in us, and others, will be completed. For now, there are three things we can do to live the way that God wants us to live: first, we need to try our best not to sin anymore because along with saving us, God demands that we repent. Secondly, we need to keep our eyes upon God and live to please Him, not ourselves. Thirdly, if we remember what Jesus said in John 8, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone,” we will always remember that we are no better than anyone else is.

The Alarm Bells Are Ringing Loudly Enough In California To Be Heard Around The World

What in the world is Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger thinking? In a World Net Daily exclusive posted on February 07, 2008 titled “‘Mom,’ ‘dad,’ banned; now 600,000 students could go" written by Bob Unruh, we discover that the passing of SB 777 in California could result in children being kicked out of school or perhaps even sued for saying such innocuous terms as “mom and dad” or “husband and wife”.

“Karen England, chief of CRI, told WND that the law is not a list of banned words, including “mom” and “dad.” But she said the requirement is that the law bans discriminatory bias and the effect will be to ban such terminology. Having ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ promotes a discriminatory bias. You have to either get rid of ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ or include everything when talking about [parental issues],” she said. “They [promoters of sexual alternative lifestyles] do consider that discriminatory.””

So, what about the kids with the straight, or traditional parents?

You got it!

Those who are leading alternative lifestyles can freely discriminate against the traditional families all they want with no repercussions. Read the full article here: http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=55808

Making matters even worse for Christians in California is the fact that Phillip and Mary Long, who are taking the initiative with their children’s education by educating them at home, were ordered by the 2nd Appellate Court in Los Angeles to send their kids back to public schools on the basis that they are running an illegal private school.

In California, children are allowed to be home schooled if they’re enrolled in a private school or are tutored by a credentialed tutor. Despite the fact that Phillip and Mary Long have their children enrolled in a satellite program through the Sunland Christian School—which is an accredited school, by the way—and the school is overseeing them, the panel of judges has determined that the school’s independent study program is worthless. Read the rest of that article here: http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/news.aspx?id=19774

I dunno, but it seems like we might become a socialist state after all.

C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters published in 1942 really hits the nail on the head by describing what it really means to pick up one’s cross and follow the Lord. In one of Screwtape’s letters to his nephew Wormwood, he says: “He wants them to learn to walk and must therefore take away His hand; and if only the will to walk is really there He is pleased even with their stumbles. Do not be deceived, Wormwood. Our cause is never more in danger, than when a human, no longer desiring, but intending, to do our Enemy's will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys.”

Have you ever felt like God has forsaken you? As Screwtape says, there are times when God must take His hand from us so that we’ll learn how to walk in His ways. We please Him most by doing something that would be a great service to another, even if we don’t really want to do it. Some of the things we can to please God are to visit the residents in nursing homes, send Bibles to the U.S. troops, help feed the hungry, pass out blankets to the homeless, and give someone who is panhandling your spare change, even if you believe that the person doesn’t need it because everyone else has already given enough already. By doing these little things, not only are we brightening the world, one action at a time, but we’re also giving God reason to rejoice over us.

Could your church use some help reaching the unchurched?

New Page Helps Church Websites Reach Out Effectively

What happens when a church creates a website with just its members in mind? Only the members read it! But what is the result when a church has a site specifically designed to reach outsiders, in user-friendly language which connects with their lives?

“Week in, week out, more visitors turn up at our church on a Sunday because of the website, than anything else,” says one church webmaster, who uses these principles.

There are ways to build (or transform) a church site to achieve this effectiveness. A new page from the Internet Evangelism Day team – ‘70+ Tips for Effective Church Sites’: http://www.InternetEvangelismDay.com/tips demonstrates the potential. The wider website explains many other options for online outreach.

“The Internet is a tool of amazing power for outreach,” says the Internet Evangelism Day coordinator Tony Whittaker. “But we must learn how to use it effectively.”

Questions and Comments

Q. If Romans 3:10 says “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” why would the Bible say that Noah was a righteous man?

A. First, let me quote two verses and then I’ll answer. In John 20:29 Jesus said, “Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” And in Matthew 13:17, Jesus said, “For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.” There were several people who not only walked in the statutes of God; Noah, Lot, Joseph, to name a few, but they also believed in the Son of God even though they hadn't yet seen Him yet. They were obedient to God to the very ends of their lives and longed to see the Messiah, which they knew was coming. Therefore, they were righteous.

Now that we know that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life to the Father, (John 14:6) if you believe in your heart that Christ is Lord and confess it with your mouth and repent of your sins, you're made righteous through His precious blood that was shed on the cross.

Bible verses, encouraging Bible verses, joy of the Lord,

The Joy Of The Lord Is Viral

Happiness is contagious. As they say, a smile goes a long way. The same is true when we have a joyful attitude. But how do we have a joyful mind-set when it seems like everything imaginable is going wrong?

By having a grateful heart.

A grateful heart can make all the difference in the world; it all depends upon our perspective. See, what we choose to allow ourselves to think about will always make the difference between having a great day and a terrible day. Not only does our attitude affect ourselves, but it also affects everyone around us. Colossians 3:8 tells us to watch our mouths. What’s more, Jesus said that whatever is in our hearts will always pour out of our mouths.

I’ll be the first one to say that life is hard. What with the cranky arthritis in my neck, low back and hip and a sixteen-year-old son who is typical of kids his age, I can go on and on bitterly complaining all day to anyone who will listen. But if I do that, not only will I be dedicating my thoughts to the evils of the day (where they shouldn’t ever be) but I’ll be ruining someone else’s day. People have enough problems of their own without having to deal with my problems too.

But by shifting my focus, by thinking about God’s goodness, by thinking of at least one good thing that He’s done for me today, I’ll have a reason to smile. When I tell someone else about what God has done, that person will be happy for me, and they’ll think about God and His greatness too. Trust me, the stoniest of hearts soften up when they think about how good God is.

Can't think of anything to be grateful for? Admittedly, in the past, I was so bent on the negatives in my life that I simply forgot to be satisfied with what God has given me. Here are some questions that I've learned to ask myself whenever I need a reminder to be grateful for at least one thing each day: Did I eat today? Did I have a warm, dry place to sleep last night? Do I have a washer and dryer to clean my clothes with? As you can see, there are a multitude of things we can be grateful for, we just have to find something, anything at all to be glad about.

Let’s take this a bit further: Since we know how our attitude affects others around us, we should also know that a smile or a kind word can be the difference between making and breaking another person’s day. By telling at least one other person to have a great day or evening, as the case may be, and remembering to say “Thank you!” to someone who has done something for us, we’ll not only have an attitude of gratitude, but we’ll spread happiness faster than the common cold.

What It Means to Walk On Water
By [ http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lola_Audu]Lola Audu

I've always been fascinated by the Apostle Peter. Perhaps, because I find it so easy to relate to his impulsive, talkative nature and his propensity for speaking from his heart. My favorite story about Peter is related in several different gospels. But only the Gospel of Mathew actually tells us about Peter's water walking adventure. The other two gospels only focus on Jesus walking on the wingtips of the waves.

Here's a brief recap of the tale if you're not familiar. The disciplines have just finished cleaning up one of those monumental miracle events for which Jesus was famous. A Dinner created and multiplied from 5 loaves and 2 small fish has just been served to 5,000 men besides women and children. There's even leftovers!

Afterwards, Jesus tells the disciples to get in the boat and head towards the other side of the shore of the sea of Galilee while he dismisses the enormous crowd. As the day darkens into evening, Jesus is alone on the shore and the disciples are still trying to make it to the other side of the lake. They're having major difficulty because of stormy weather related conditions which have produced huge waves.

Somewhere between 3:00 a.m. ~ 6:00 a.m. in the morning, (the fourth watch of the night in Roman tradition), they are haunted by a strange phenomenon. Terrified, they observe a figure walking towards them across the tidal waves and they are sure they are being visited by an apparition from the netherworld. But the voice of Jesus calls out to them to assure them saying, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." (Matthew 14:27)

Now, this is what I love about Peter. He's not afraid to challenge the ghost. He talks back! In spite of his very real real fears he says..."Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water." While many sermons I've heard over the years focused on the fact that Peter steps out on the water and begins to sink, what has always held a peculiar fascination for me is that Peter didn't allow his Fear to define the parameters of engagement. He challenges "the ghost" to prove itself.

Peter gets out of the boat and actually dares to do the impossible! In-spite of huge waves, driving winds...he finds himeself walking on top of large looming waves of water. But circumstances have their way of bearing down on all of us. As he begins to look at the predicament in which he has just placed himself by stepping out of the relative safety of a boat and into the deep uncertainty of an unchartered course, he realises he's in deep trouble and rapidly begins to sink. But not before asking for some divine assistance..."Lord, save me!" (Matthew 14:30)

And God does! Reaching out a hand, Jesus catches him and in an instant, the impetuous disciple and his Master are back in the boat. But not before Jesus chides Peter for his doubting. I think perhaps he must have truly enjoyed those few moments of watching Peter step outside himself. Can you imagine that show...two men totally in defiance of the laws of gravity and turning all the rules and laws of nature upside down. Can't blame Jesus for wanting Peter to do it for just a tad longer...

I can imagine the conversation of the other 11 who remained in the boat. They're probably too terrified to stop Peter, but probably NO ONE says "That's a great idea Peter, Go For it!" In fact, they're probably wishing Peter would just SHUT UP. Maybe whatever it is out there will just GO AWAY instead of come towards them. But, NO...blabber mouth has to speak up and then jump out of the boat in the middle of a storm. But, they can't help but watch. To their surprise, Peter's doing it...He's walking on a Lake!

You see, Jesus command is not just to Peter who is marooned on a watery highway, it's to everyone within hearing distance who needs to hear the message. He is clear and precise..."Don't BE AFRAID, TAKE COURAGE." Why is this important. I think it's because he's showing us a powerful lesson. The water and the waves did NOT have the power to destroy Peter or drown the boat contrary to what they assumed. Peter's walking on the water had clearly demonstrated that nothing is impossible. Rather it was their FEAR which was the biggest hindrance to their deliverance. He instructs them in one passage to "TAKE COURAGE." Instead of succumbing to the shrill call of FEAR, take the powerful, life restoring grace of COURAGE.

And it works! Instantly, the wind dies down and they are able to steer the boat safely towards the shore. There's a powerful message in this ancient story for the stormy conditions which are over shadowing the real estate industry right now. The winds of adversity and the waves of bad news are swelling with intensity on a daily basis. Many have already been overcome and succumbed to the the reality of not being able to support themselves and their families.

But for every boat full of fearful people, there's a Peter. Look for them during these times. Folks who are not afraid to call it like they see it...not afraid to ride the lions mane if it means it's the last breath they take. You might have someone like this in your office or hear about their exploits. Don't waste your breath deriding these brave hearts for being silly and out of tune with reality. TAKE THEIR COURAGE. This is their unique gift.

We've always had these inspirational souls in our midst. They are disciples disguised in the garb of ordinary affairs. They are the Abraham Lincolns who said NO to Slavery even at the cost of perhaps irreparably damaging the union. These brave souls may be bent over men & women like Gandhi or Mother Teresa who challenged the status quo with a bull horn that was much louder than any sounds that emanated from their frail frames. Or they may be a mother, teacher or mentor who challenged you to move on by leading the way when you'd all but given up.

The point is, A WAY will always be provided to those who choose to TAKE COURAGE rather than hold onto FEAR. So, if you're struggling with looming waves of uneasiness and despair, you're not alone. There were 11 others who remained in the boat. Remember that the miracle working power resides within you. Peter walked on his own two feet not those belonging to Jesus. Use what you've got and step out. Don't allow yourself to be overtaken by the storm...Use What is IN YOU to tame it!
