I’ll admit, when I was a new Christian, I was a tad bit judgmental. Okay, okay… I was highly critical. Once I accepted salvation,
because I was a new creature, I felt that I had the God-given right to evaluate others.
However, reading Matthew
7:1-5 and Luke 6:37-38 quickly knocked me off my high horse. I realized that since I had a lot of clutter in my own backyard—if you know what I mean—I had no right to go into
someone else’s yard with a huge lawn bag and start
cleaning up theirs.
The bottom line: Being a Christian doesn’t mean we’re faultless. I’ll never be perfect and neither will you.
Frightening thought, isn’t it?
And when it comes right down to it, there’s nothing that we can ever do or not do to earn our salvation: we’re totally at the mercy
of God. Thankfully, He isn’t like us; otherwise, He’d have already cast all of us into hell and washed His hands of the whole affair…
scratch that, He never would have created the world and populated it with us in the first place.
However, Philippians 1:6 promises that one day, the work that God has begun in us, and others, will be completed. For now, there
are three things we can do to live the way that God wants us to live: first, we need to try our best not to sin anymore because along
with saving us, God demands that we repent. Secondly, we need to keep our eyes upon God and live to please Him, not ourselves.
Thirdly, if we remember what Jesus said in John 8, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone,” we will always
remember that we are no better than anyone else is.
